Splits and Sutures: A Homeland Herstory of Four Generations

  • Director
    Kossy Chen Keying

"Splits and Sutures" documents rural women in Jilin, Northeast China, during the 2026 Lunar New Year. Spanning four generations—from my 90-year-old grandmother to my niece—it captures a century-long struggle against systemic poverty and domestic violence. This reportage is an act of historical reclamation, revealing invisible traumas and hard-won dignity in the margins of socio-political change. Through the cycle of splitting and suturing, the work illuminates the resilience of a community silenced for decades, reclaiming their herstory in a rapidly changing China.
