Waste is a pressing social issue in developed Asian countries in general. At an open-air landfill in the suburbs of Hanoi Vietnam, a small community earns its living. Waste is collected at a transfer station before being transported to a processing plant. This is where small groups of people daily scavenge for scrap materials. On hot, dry days, burning the waste frequently occurs, but driven by the need to make a living, these people in the community brave the health risks and smoke to find scrap metal.
