From 2019 to 2024, I photographed the Kola Peninsula in northwest Russia, bordering Finland and Norway and hosting Russia’s Northern Fleet and nuclear infrastructure. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, everyday life became increasingly shaped by militarisation, propaganda, and fear. As reality itself became simplified by war, distinctions between private and public, belief and repetition, began to blur under the pressure of official narratives. Kolsky documents this shift, examining how a long-standing fear of war has been transformed into acceptance of militarised rhetoric.
