This long-term documentary project focusses on daily life in old Havana, two months prior to the renewed US sanctions on Cuba. This work combines street and documentary-styled photography of Havanans navigating scarcity, resilience and faith; beyond tourism. A parallel body of work also captures Yoruba rituals, celebration of Havana day, rarely witnessed by outsiders. Together, they form an urgent, layered visual record of a city that is seeing a swift impediment to their economy due to the sanctions. This project is ongoing, having a trust-based, ethnographic and an ethical approach.
