This project follows a six year scientific effort to develop a rapid accessible diagnostic test for tuberculosis, an ancient disease that still kills 5,000 people every day, mostly in communities shaped by poverty and stigma. Working between European laboratories and clinics in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and South Africa, the project documents scientists pushing technological boundaries, nurses caring for patients in fragile health systems, and individuals fighting for breath against infection. Through portraits, labs and fieldwork, the series maps various dimensions of this invisible epidemic.
