The March of Life and Death

  • Director
    Pawel Opalinski

Every year, at November, Barcelona becomes the stage for the Las Catrinas Parade - combining Mexican and Catholic themes with Catalan Street parades. Only here you can see at the same time: La Catrina - skeleton lady in a hat who has become an iconic symbol of approaching death; the Virgin of the Apocalypse heralds the destruction of the world; the Big-Headed Men (Capgrossos)—symbolizing the plebs and Jesus, who has just conquered death and is heading in a direction known only to him. Looking at the procession of contrasting figures, we easily discover that parades are an affirmation of life.
