The floods and landslides that swept across Sumatra Island, Indonesia, in November 2025 were driven by extreme weather and scarred landscapes, with Aceh among the hardest hit. In the Leuser Ecosystem, deforestation for plantations and mining weakened the land’s ability to hold heavy rain. Rivers rose, slopes gave way, and 1,204 villages were affected; 140 people died and more than 165,000 residents were displaced. This project follows the human aftermath, revealing how people endure through small acts of resilience as they support one another and rebuild their lives amid loss and uncertainty.
