A national priority for President Claudia Sheinbaum. More than 130,000 people have been reported as missing in Mexico, with almost 15,000 forced disappearances in the first year of her government, which was inaugurated on October 1, 2024. Between January 2007 and April 2023, Mexican authorities reported the discovery of 5,698 clandestine graves. With more than 72,100 unidentified bodies, Mexico also faces a forensic crisis. Many affected families carry placards during protests throughout the country giving their missing loved ones a face, as here in Mexico City during Dia de la Independencia.
