Riosucio, Colombia, situated in the Chocó-Darien lowland rainforest, predominantly inhabited by Afro-Colombian fisher and peasant communities, faces multidimensional poverty and hunger. Extreme weather events, mining, and logging are causing river sedimentation and flooding. These factors contribute to food shortages due to crop loss, obstruction of road and water routes, and mercury contamination of fish and water. Furthermore, Chocó is one of the regions controlled by illegal armed groups. According to the 2025 Global Report on Food Crisis, this directly increases food insecurity.
