The game of Lelo burti is played every year on Easter Day in Shukhuti, a small village in Guria, Georgia. Men from two parts of the village fight over a heavy ball, carrying it across a stream in their part of the village, and then placing it as a trophy on a chosen grave. The game also commemorates the halting of the Ottoman attack in the region. I've photographed this game several times, but over the years it has become so popular that it's now difficult to see it up close amidst the crowds of tourists.
