With the mass export of foreign waste to Indonesia, local communities are forced to grapple with its consequences. Several villages in East Java Province, including their Rice fields, have turned into dumping grounds for plastic waste, mostly imported from the EU, Australia, the UK, and Japan. Despite the severe environmental challenges, Indonesian villagers have found ways to profit from the plastic waste, turning it into a form of currency, though often at the cost of further environmental damage.
