Brazilians Celebrate The End of Bolsonaro Era

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on January 1st, 2023 returned to power in Brazil. Nearly 200,000 people gathered in Brasilia to attend the event organised in honor of the new President, showing their happiness and euphoria around the capital city. After four years of the far-right and ultra conservative government of Jair Bolsonaro, a big part of civil society feels the possibility of a real change in Brazilian environmental and human rights policy.

Antonio Cascio, born in 1985, is an Italian photojournalist focused in social movements, environmental justice, and discriminated groups. In 2016 he studied a Photo Documentary post-graduation course at the Idep school in Barcelona, Spain. In 2018 he started a collaboration with Abacapress news agency, in 2020 with Sopa Images and in 2023 with Reuters. From 2019 he works as freelancer from Mexico, Colombia and Brazil. His photographs have been published in The Guardian, DW, CNN, Mongabay, The Times, The New Yorker, Revista 5W, El Pais, Publico, Folha de São Paulo, Liberation, etc.
