FAQ

Image Submission

How do I submit my entry?
Entries are submitted online. You’ll be asked to provide your name for credit, a series title, a short description, and to select a category. You’ll then be guided to upload your images.
Each entry may include from 1 to 10 photographs. Entries containing 2 or more images should form a cohesive story or concept. Judges will evaluate the strength of the series as a whole, so clarity, flow, and consistency are essential. We recommend beginning with your strongest image.
  • Format: JPG, RGB
  • File size: up to 4 MB per image
  • Dimensions: minimum 1000 px (long side), maximum 4000 px (long side)
  • File naming: use your last name and image title (no symbols or spaces). For a series, number the files in order of importance.

Yes. A submission may be entered into more than one category, and multiple entries are welcome. This can increase visibility and the chances of recognition.

Yes. Images must have been taken within the past year to reflect current, relevant journalism.
Yes, though we strongly encourage the submission of new material to ensure the Prize highlights the most timely and original work.

Most upload errors are due to incorrect file type or size. Please double-check that your files are JPG, under 4 MB, and correctly named. If problems persist, try refreshing the upload page or contact our support team at support@photojournalismprize.com.

Your Member Profile includes an “Entry History” tab, where you can view the status of all your submissions—whether they are pending, completed, or awarded. You can also download payment receipts and winner certificates there.
You’ll receive a confirmation email after submitting. If you don’t see it, check your spam folder or update your profile email in the Member Section. You can always verify your submission status in Entry History.

Use of Images

Submitted images will only be used in connection with the Photojournalism Prize. This includes promotional activities, media coverage, winner announcements, curated exhibitions, and the annual PJP publication. At all times, your copyright is fully respected and your authorship will be credited.

Your images may appear on the PJP website, social media channels, newsletters, and other promotional materials. They may also be featured in press or media coverage about the Prize, in official winner announcements, in curated exhibitions—either digital or print—organized by the Photojournalism Prize, and in the annual PJP publication.
No monetary compensation is provided for promotional use. If we wish to use your images outside the scope of Prize-related promotion, we will contact you to request additional permission.

The Judging Process

Entries are reviewed over several weeks through a blind process—photographer identities remain anonymous to ensure fairness. Each submission is scored by an international jury of respected photo editors, journalists, curators, and industry leaders.

Judges evaluate work on its news value, human interest, visual storytelling, photographic quality, editing, and overall reporting. The goal is to recognize photo essays that are not only visually compelling but also demonstrate journalistic integrity, narrative strength, and global relevance.

Winners

Winners will be announced approximately six weeks after the final submission deadline.
Announcements are made on the Photojournalism Prize website, shared by email, and highlighted across our social media and communication channels.
In addition to receiving an email, you can log in to your Member Section and view your Entry History, where winning entries are clearly marked.

The Photojournalism Prize celebrates outstanding achievement with three major awards:

  • 1st Prize – Impact Story (€5,000): Awarded to the entry with the highest cumulative jury score, recognizing excellence in storytelling and journalistic integrity.
  • 2nd Prize – Jury Selection (€3,000): Awarded to the entry most frequently chosen by jury members, highlighting work that resonates widely across perspectives.
  • 3rd Prize – Founders’ Choice (€1,000): Personally selected by the founders of the Prize to honor a story of exceptional vision and importance.

In addition, all entries scoring above 70 points will receive an official Winner’s Certificate and Seal (PDF) to acknowledge their achievement and support their professional promotion.
